Lucy and Charlie's Honeymoon
Earlier this week on Monday, I was in a staged reading for Matthew C. Yee’s Lucy and Charlie’s Honeymoon. It was put on at Steppenwolf’s 1700 Theatre as part of their Lookout Series. It was so much fun! The audience had a blast, and so did the cast. The show is about two Chinese-American newlyweds who try to become outlaws by robbing a place, but they’re terrible at it. I play the husband’s cousin, who is actually a cop in training and gets caught in the middle. Comedy ensues. Really hoping this gets turned into a full production!

In an act of rebellion against their perceived cultural identity, two Chinese-American newlyweds improvise a reckless plot to commit armed robbery to afford a modest honeymoon. A comedic, full length play with live singing and musicians inspired by classic country western and folk.
The Asian Pacific American (APA) population is seriously under represented on stage. Our Perspective: Asian American Play Readings is a staged play reading series intended to provide inspiration, space, and audiences for Midwest APA playwrights, directors, and actors. These are script-in-hand concert readings where actors read plays written and directed by local Asian American theatre artists. Presented by Asian Improv Arts Midwest’s AA Arts Incubator, Our Perspective is the first ever Asian American play reading series in the Midwest. These history making events are long overdue.
